Thank you for taking part. This study runs over about a week and a half. Please read this page before you begin.
You will work with two sets of organic chemistry terms. One set will be practiced across four days, with one short session per day. The other set will all be practiced on Day 4, in four short blocks back to back. Which set goes with which schedule is determined by your participant ID. Both sets are tested at the end.
Fill-in-the-blank. You see a chemical structure and a partial name with one blank, for example "3-______hexane". You type only the missing word, such as "methyl". Most questions in the study use this format.
Full name. Used only on the delayed test. You see a chemical structure and an empty answer box. You type the complete IUPAC name from scratch.
During the practice sessions (Days 1 to 4), you will see whether each answer is correct. If it is wrong, a short reminder about the naming rule appears. Please take a moment to read it.
During the delayed test, no feedback is shown. It measures what you know without prompting.
Each question has a 20-second time limit. A countdown shows in the answer area.
Tip. Respond as quickly as you can with what comes to mind. If you do not know, that is okay. Make your best guess and move on. Do not consult notes or study materials.
methyl and METHYL count.iso-butyl and iso butyl both count. Please do not share these instructions or discuss study materials with other potential participants.
